John Schuster

John Schuster has been the Orchestra Librarian for PYP since January 2026. He is a freelance horn player based in Portland, OR and received his Bachelors in Horn Performance from the University of Portland in 2021.
Upon graduating from UP, he was commissioned as an Ordnance and Logistics Officer in the United States Army and completed his time in service in 2025.

Since returning to Portland, he has kept a busy schedule of teaching and performing with a variety of ensembles. Noteworthy are his appointment as Principal Horn with the Newport Symphony Orchestra, Assistant Principal/Utility Horn with the Beaverton Symphony Orchestra, and performing with the Eugene Ballet, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Big Horn Brass, and the Choral Arts Ensemble of Portland.

Outside of music, John enjoys hiking, coffee, and spending time with his dog, Frank Sinatra.
