Mitchell Nelson

Mitchell Nelson grew up in a family of musicians.  With two band director parents and three younger siblings, a passion for music was only natural.  Mitchell started on cello but switched to his father’s instrument, the trumpet, which he still plays.  Music has taught him the important values of hard work, dedication, and collaboration. 

Before moving to Portland, Mitchell worked between the Milwaukee, WI and Chicago, Il areas, where he would gig and teach.  Since moving to Portland in July of 2023, Mitchell has played with Portland Center Stage, teaches trumpet, trombone, and music theory with the Portland Youth Philharmonic, and runs his own private studio.

Mitchell holds degrees in trumpet performance from Northern Illinois University (P.C.), the University of New Mexico (M.M) and Lawrence University (B.M.).
