CELEBRATING ONE YEAR WITH THE BLANCHET HOUSE OF HOSPITALITY
By Brenda Ray Scott (Prep 1980-1984)
I am excited to be celebrating my first year as Development Director with Blanchet House of Hospitality. This Portland-based human services organization has focused for many years on alleviating suffering and giving hope for a better life through its meal service, residential shelter, and clothing programs. The pandemic, compounded by catastrophic fires and smoke, has brought an astonishing 100 percent growth in the need for our services. It’s also brought generous donors and volunteers, including out-of-work chefs, to support our efforts and share their compassion for Portland’s impoverished and houseless neighbors.
I live in southeast Portland with my family and enjoy learning about the community around me, as well as listening to all types of music. I remember fondly my years in the PYP program studying viola with James Eoff and serving for most of that time as the Music Librarian for the Prep Orchestra. Lessons learned from Mr. A still resonate with me today.
