Parents and Volunteering
Volunteerism
Volunteers make the world go ‘round! At Portland Youth Philharmonic, this has been true for decades. Many parents find that volunteering is a wonderful way to stay connected to their children’s lives. However, volunteering is also for community members, and it can be fulfilling to invest in our students. We thank every volunteer for working with us to benefit young musicians and the community.
Volunteer opportunities cover a range of skills and commitments. You can spend as much or as little time as you like. If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out this online form to be added to our volunteer mailing list or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
Did you know that many businesses will make a contribution to PYP for your time spent volunteering? Ask your HR department about Paid Volunteer Time Off, Paid-Release Time, or Employer-Sponsored Volunteerism.

Parents
All parents of currently enrolled PYP musicians are automatically members of the Portland Youth Philharmonic Parent Association (PYPPA). With parent participation in the PYPPA, they work together to support PYP through fundraising and program promotion, supporting musical excellence for all young musicians in the Portland Youth Philharmonic Association. PYPPA also works to help musicians deepen friendships and allow families to connect.
Activities may include:
- Promote concerts via social media, email, distribute concert posters or brochures, or other ways.
- Promote and encourage local community and business involvement with PYP.
- Sell ads (or provide leads to potential ad buyers) for our concert program books.
- Host tables at the annual Breakfast, encourage parent attendance, and participate.
- Social events, for parents and for musicians (outside of rehearsal time).
