Alumni Monthly Giving Challenge

Thanks to the generosity of PYP Conductor, David Hattner, all new monthly gifts from PYP alumni will be matched - dollar for dollar - up to $10,000!
That means your $10 monthly gift becomes $20, your $25 becomes $50 — every month, all year long.

Alumni Donations Here!

Oregonians: When you donate to PYP, you can double your gift for free by making a matching gift to the Oregon Cultural Trust and claiming Oregon’s Cultural Tax Credit! Visit culturaltrust.org to learn more.

If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, including PYP in your estate plan, or donating stocks, securities, an instrument, a vehicle, or other goods or services, please contact the PYP team at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or 503.223.5939.

Other Ways to Support

Gifts of Cash

Annual unrestricted cash donations provide vital immediate operating support for PYP to fulfill its mission. Cash gifts are considered to be made on the date they are hand-delivered or postmarked. Gifts of cash include checks and direct withdrawals from a bank account, which may be made on a monthly or quarterly schedule. Consult your bank to set up direct payment from your account.

Matching Gifts

Many community-minded companies will match contributions from their employees to PYP - some even doubling or tripling your gift at no extra cost to you. Ask your company’s Human Resources Department for further information on matching gifts.

Sponsorship

PYP seeks a number of sponsors every season to support concerts, events, and its annual spring fundraiser. Sponsorship offers benefits to PYP and to the sponsor, ensuring stability for PYP and promotion for companies and individuals. For more information, email Denny Richard at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Gifts of Securities

Gifts of stocks, bonds, and mutual funds that have increased in value (and that you have owned for more than one year) provide even greater tax benefits than giving cash. Not only is the market value of the securities deductible, but you also avoid paying capital gains tax on the appreciation. Have your broker contact PYP for information on how to transfer your securities to the PYP brokerage account for sale. Please also describe the securities and the purpose of your gift in a letter/email to the PYP office.

Gifts of Instruments or Other Property

PYP is open to accepting donations of musical instruments or other personal property, but please be aware that these items may need to be sold to meet more immediate needs. Before making a donation, please contact Executive Director Noreen Murdock at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or 503-223-5939.

Important details to consider:

  • Once donated, the instrument becomes PYP’s property, and PYP has full discretion over its use.
  • We cannot guarantee that the instrument will be used regularly.
  • PYP may choose to donate the instrument to another organization in need or sell it.
  • According to IRS guidelines, donors are responsible for determining the value of the instrument for tax purposes. PYP is not qualified to assess this value.
    • Have the instrument appraised by a qualified expert before donating.
    • Provide PYP with the appraisal when making the donation.
    • If the instrument is brand new, please include a receipt of purchase or the published sale price.

If you wish to donate an instrument under these terms, please fill out the instrument donation form and email the completed form to Denny Richard at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Thank you!

Vehicle Donations

PYP accepts vehicle donations, too! Cars, trucks, boats, jet skis - pretty much any vehicle with a motor. All vehicle donations are managed through our partnership with CARS which you can access by clicking here.

Gifts of Life Insurance

Naming PYP as owner and beneficiary of a life insurance policy is another way to support PYP and receive a charitable tax deduction. Contact PYP for further information about gifts of life insurance.

Memorials and Honoraria

Gifts to PYP in memory of a loved one or friend who has passed or in honor of a special person or occasion are other meaningful ways to support the ongoing artistic and educational work of PYP.

Gifts to PYP Endowment

Gifts to the PYP Endowment generate interest income for general operations and scholarships, while the principal is held intact, providing permanent support for PYP. Endowed gifts can be directed to the general endowment fund, to an existing named fund, or, for gifts over $25,000, can establish a new fund for a particular purpose named for the donors themselves or for those they choose to honor. For questions about endowment giving, please email Executive Director Noreen Murdock at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Planned Giving and Bequests

A large portion of the PYP Endowment has come from bequests made by individuals who wished to provide support for PYP in perpetuity, but bequests don’t need to exclusively go to our endowment either. There are many ways you can include PYP in your estate plan. Some example language for different kinds of bequests is described below.

There is no need to tell us the exact details or amounts of your bequest, but we love to hear if you have made provisions for PYP in your estate plan so that we can thank you and recognize you as part of our Encore Circle. Please let us know by emailing Executive Director Noreen Murdock at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

OUTRIGHT BEQUEST IN WILL (UNRESTRICTED)
This is an example of a unrestricted bequest, which means that your gift will be used where it is needed most.

1. Specific dollar amount:
“I bequeath the sum of $_____ to the Portland Youth Philharmonic Association, an Oregon nonprofit corporation having a principal place of business at 9320 SW Barbur Blvd Ste 140, Portland OR 97219, Federal Tax ID #93-0386902, to be used or disposed of as the Portland Youth Philharmonic Association in its sole discretion deems appropriate.”

2. Percentage amount:
“I bequeath the sum of (___ percent) of my estate to the Portland Youth Philharmonic Association, an Oregon nonprofit corporation having a principal place of business at 9320 SW Barbur Blvd Ste 140, Portland OR 97219, Federal Tax ID #93-0386902, to be used or disposed of as the Portland Youth Philharmonic Association in its sole discretion deems appropriate.”

3. Share of or entire residue of estate:
“I devise and bequeath (all) (___ percent) of the remainder of my property to the Portland Youth Philharmonic Association, an Oregon nonprofit corporation having a principal place of business at 9320 SW Barbur Blvd Ste 140, Portland OR 97219, Federal Tax ID #93-0386902, to be used or disposed of as the Portland Youth Philharmonic Association in its sole discretion deems appropriate.”

CONDITIONAL BEQUEST IN WILL
You can place certain conditions on the gift, if needed.

“If my spouse does not survive me [or other condition], I bequeath the sum of $_____ to the Portland Youth Philharmonic Association, an Oregon nonprofit corporation having a principal place of business at 9320 SW Barbur Blvd Ste 140, Portland OR 97219, Federal Tax ID #93-0386902, to be used or disposed of as the Portland Youth Philharmonic Association in its sole discretion deems appropriate.”

RESTRICTED USE
If you’d like to restrict your gift to a particular program or purpose within PYP’s mission, you can do something like this:
“I bequeath the sum of $_____ (or __%)  to Portland Youth Philharmonic Association, an Oregon nonprofit corporation having a principal place of business at 9320 SW Barbur Blvd Ste 140, Portland OR 97219, Federal Tax ID #93-0386902, for the following use: ________.”

If you designate your bequest for a specific purpose, we request that you include the following will provision to ensure that your gift will continue to provide for PYP’s needs. For example:
“However, I impose no legal or equitable obligation in this regard.”
or, “If in the judgment of the Portland Youth Philharmonic Association it becomes, or is likely to become, impossible or impractical to accomplish the purposes of this gift, the income or principal, or both, may be used for such related purposes and in such manner as determined by the Portland Youth Philharmonic Association.”
