CELEBRATE MEI-ANN CHEN!

6.23.2004 - PYP and then Music Director Mei-Ann Chen performing Tchaikovsky’s Sérénade Mélancolique, with guest soloist Portland Junior Symphony alumna Marylou Speaker Churchill in New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall.

Marylou played in PJS from 1956-64 and was Concertmaster from 61-64. She served as Principal Second violin of the Boston Symphony for 23 years, and was a member of that orchestra for 30 years. Learn more about her accomplishments here.

PYP alumni who played under Mei-Ann: Leave your favorite memory of playing in the orchestra in the comment section of this blog to be entered to win a PJS/PYP alumni mug, and a copy of a CD of Mei-Ann conducting PYP called LISTEN - IMAGINE - JOURNEY. Three (3) winners will be selected at random from the alumni who respond below.

Winners may pick up their prizes at PYP’s Pictures at an Exhibition concert on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at 4:00 PM in the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall.

  • 1. Has to be the Asia tour in 2007! Going around and playing in different Asian cities and even meeting Ms. Chen’s parents too. That’s an experience I’ll never forget.
