REMEMBERING MARY CHARLOTTE BROWN BRAWLEY

Posted on May 29, 2020

(PJS 1956 - 1962)

PYP has received word that alumna Mary Charlotte Brown Brawley passed away on January 17, 2020, from complications related to dementia. Mary Charlotte was a violist, but she loved to tell the tale of how she volunteered to learn a mandolin part for Mr. A’s composition Phases of the Great Land (Nov 22, 1958). She was an avid fan of PYP, attended concerts and receptions as long as she was able, and always wanted a printed program signed by David Hattner!

PYP staff were not entirely surprised to learn that Mary Charlotte has left a portion of her estate to PYP. However, we were surprised to learn that even given market decline, this unrestricted gift could be in excess of $100,000.

  • 1. Thank you Mary Charlotte Brown Brawley for your love of music, for inviting neighbors in to enjoy the sounds of the bottles of water. Getting the exact sound is not easy--takes careful effort. You did that. My son took piano lessons from you.
I didn't get to hear you play in the PYP. That is a loss for me. Thanks for being my neighbor all those years.
