Meet 15-Year-Old Fall Concert Piano Soloist Natalie Tan

Natalie Tan is the winner of PYP’s 2016-17 Piano Concerto Competition. She will perform Frédéric Chopin‘s Piano Concerto No. 2 at PYP’s Beethoven’s 5th performance on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, PYP’s Mini-Tour to Roseburg (Saturday, October 28, 2017) and Corvallis (Sunday, October 29, 2017), and the FREE Preview Concert on Monday, November 6, 2017 in Vancouver, WA’s Skyview Auditorium.
Natalie Tan is a 15-year-old sophomore at Jesuit High School in Beaverton. She has been studying piano for 10 years and is a student of Linda Barker Hayes.
In the summer of 2016, Natalie attended the Jacob’s School of Music Piano Academy at Indiana University and has also been a part of the Chamber Music Camp of Portland in 2014 and 2015. She has attended masterclasses held by Andreas Klein, Paul Roberts, Julia Lee, Dean Kramer, and Claire Wachter. In May 2017, Natalie played the third movement of the Chopin Piano Concerto No. 2 with musicians from the Oregon Ballet Theatre and the Oregon Symphony Orchestra as a winner in the Metro Arts Young Artists Concerto Competition.
Her other competition awards include 1st place in the 2016 Chris Tapang Scholarship Competition, 2015 Tom O’Brien Junior Scholarship Competition, 2015 OMTA ensemble festival with a piano trio and 2014 Trula Whelan Concerto Festival. She also placed third in the 2015 MTNA junior piano competition and received honorable mention in 2014 Tom O’Brien Junior Scholarship Competition. She has also won numerous classical and romantic festivals. Natalie is a part of the Jesuit High School Mock Trial team and also plays basketball for her school. Natalie enjoys travelling, listening to music, swimming, and hanging out with friends.
