MEET AARON GREEN, WINNER OF PYP’S 2018-19 SOLOIST COMPETITION

Aaron Greene is the winner of PYP’s 2018-19 Soloist Competition. He will perform the first movement of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto on Saturday, November 10, 2018 in the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, on PYP’s tour to Redmond, OR and Corvallis, OR, and in our free Preview Concert and Live Stream on Monday, November 5, 2018 in Pacific University’s Taylor-Meade Performing Arts Center.

Aaron is a 17-year-old senior at Union High School in Camas, WA. He started playing the violin at 8 years old, and currently studies with Carol Sindell. He gave his solo debut with the MetroArts orchestra at age 15, as a winner of the 2017 Van Buren Concerto Competition. Aaron has won awards in multiple other competitions, including fitst prize in the Great Composers International Music Competition and second place in the Washington State violin solo competition.

He has led several ensembles as concertmaster, including the Portland Youth Philharmonic, Camerata PYP, Olivenbaum’s ensembles, and Union High School’s small and large string ensembles. With Union High School’s ensembles, he won first place two years in a row at the Washington State ensemble competition. Aaron has also attended numerous music festivals, including the Interlochen International Arts Camp, Lindenbaum Festival in Korea, and Montecito International Music Festival. He attended the National Symphony Orchestra’s Summer Music Institute, where he was a finalist in the NSO’s International Concerto Competition and played solo on the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage. In 2018, he was awarded the Arts Ambassador Scholarship from the Clark County nonprofit EnspireArts, to coordinate peer-to-peer music lessons for students in the Evergreen School District. Aaron is a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist, and his volunteer work with the Clark County Youth Commission and suicide prevention has earned him the Gold Presidential Service Award.
