DAVID HATTNER’S MARCH PYP PLAYLIST

Posted on March 2, 2018

PYP Musical Director David Hattner shares what’s currently on his playlist. Revamp your own playlist with selections from our PYP Playlist on Twitter on #MusicMonday.

I am very pleased that Huw Edwards (PYP Musical Director 1995-2002) will return to guest conduct some music from England for our Pictures at an Exhibition performance on Sunday, May 6, 2018. George Butterworth‘s A Shropshire Lad was programmed by Huw during the 76th season of concerts with PYP, and this short, powerful piece is important for our audiences to hear.

The materials for Butterworth’s Rhapsody come from his own song cycle of the same name. These songs are worth hearing to understand their literary context.

Butterworth was one of England’s finest composers, despite having died at age 31 in World War I. The short catalog of works he left attests to his great talent and humanity.

Stay tuned,

I wonder if it would possible to project it during the concert as well. The same could be done with “Pictures at an Exhibition”, using the ones that represent each movement. Just a thought.
