Due to COVID-19 concerns, Portland Youth Philharmonic moves annual fundraising breakfast online
PORTLAND, OR – In light of recent COVID-19 concerns, Portland Youth Philharmonic’s Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to move the organization’s only annual fundraiser, its Meet the Musicians Breakfast, to an online venue. Originally scheduled for 7:30 AM on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at the Multnomah Athletic Club, PYP will now livestream the presentation on their popular YouTube channel. The livestream will begin at 7:30 AM on Wednesday.
“The decision to livestream the event is based on the growing risk of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection in the Portland area and its potential impact on our supporters, music students, staff and volunteers attending the Breakfast” says Peter De Graff, the PYP Board’s Vice President and Development Committee Chair. “On Wednesday morning, guests will now have the opportunity to view a slightly abridged version of the planned Breakfast presentation and give a gift online to support the organization.”
Friends of PYP will gather virtually by tuning in on the orchestra’s YouTube channel for a livestream presentation and a performance by the organization’s Young String Ensemble quartet. Viewers will be astonished by the accomplishment of PYP’s youngest string players, will meet the musicians, and learn how the orchestra’s diverse programs positively change the lives of children in our community. The orchestra invites online viewers to support PYP’s 96-year legacy of excellence in music education with a donation.
At last year’s fundraising breakfast, thanks to generous donor support, the organization raised over $96,000 for PYP’s outstanding music education programs provided at no charge to individuals or schools. This year’s goal is $100,000 to support PYP’s multiple programs serving 13,000 students annually.
