Who: Portland Youth Philharmonic and Oregon Historical Society
What: Portland Youth Philharmonic (PYP) to host a special tour for the media of a brand-new Oregon Historical Society exhibit celebrating PYP’s 100 years of excellence. Titled “Sagebrush to Stumptown: Portland Youth Philharmonic’s Astonishing First Century,” the exhibit will open to the public on November 3 at 10:00 AM with a ribbon cutting and brief remarks. Media representatives are especially invited to have an exciting first look. Also featured is a digital timeline, created in partnership with HistoryIT, that will be part of a permanent digital museum documenting PYP’s history.
Program to include:
- Welcome address by PYP Alumni Relations Manager Kristan Knapp
- Remarks by PYP Musical Director of nearly two decades David Hattner
- Ribbon cutting ceremony with PYP Board President and alumna Leslie Wu
- Interview opportunities with PYP leadership, alumni, and guests
- Photo and b-roll opportunities with PYP leadership and of the ribbon cutting
- Guided tour of the 100th anniversary exhibit

Why: PYP is the first youth orchestra in the nation to reach the historic milestone of turning 100 years old. A gem among Portland’s rich arts scene, PYP wants to share with the greater Portland community the founding story of this historic organization and highlight its local, national, and international impact through ten decades of educating young musicians and providing outstanding concerts for our community.
