Portland Composer Tomáš Svoboda Hears Symphony He Wrote 50 Years Ago for the First Time
Tomáš Svoboda, Portland’s own Czech-American composer, visited Portland Youth Philharmonic’s rehearsal on Monday, October 17. The local musician and composer heard his Symphony No. 2 performed for the first time in the 53 years since he composed it. Portland Youth Philharmonic will premiere Svoboda’s piece at the Fall Concert on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 7:30 PM in the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. Tickets start at just $5.
Portland Youth Philharmonic will perform Svoboda’s Symphony No. 2 and much more in two free preview performances: Sunday, October 30, 2016 at 3:00 PM in Oregon State University’s Austin Auditorium and Monday, November 7, 2016 at 7:30 PM in Pacific University’s Taylor-Meade Performing Arts Center.
