PORTLAND YOUTH PHILHARMONIC PRESENTS FREE VIRTUAL CONCERT PREMIERING WORKS BY TWO YOUNG PYP MUSICIANS

PYP presents free virtual concert premiering works by two young PYP musicians

PORTLAND, OR – Portland Youth Philharmonic, the nation’s first and oldest youth orchestra, will host a free virtual concert on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at 7:00 PM Pacific on its YouTube channel. The performance will feature the organization’s chamber orchestra Camerata PYP premiering works written by PYP musicians Koharu and Haruka Sakiyama. PYP’s Music Director David Hattner will introduce the virtual performance and welcome guests in the live chat.

Viewers can tune in on PYP’s YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/c/PortlandYouthPhilTV) or visit the orchestra’s website (www.portlandyouthphil.org) to find the link. Camerata PYP will premiere Koharu’s Suite du Cirque and Haruka’s Garden March. This virtual concert is free and all are welcome. No ticket is required.

Camerata PYP and the Sakiyama sisters will also perform virtually the week before their free concert at PYPFEST Vol. 2: The Orchestra Strikes Back on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at 7:00 PM Pacific. PYPFEST Vol. 2 will premiere Chicago-based composer James Stephenson’s Suite of Suites, alongside 9 other new compositions from Eduardo Alonso-Crespo, Tatev Amiryan, Jonathan Bingham, Sakari Dixon Vanderveer, Erberk Eryılmaz, Gabriel A. Meneses, Gordon Rencher, Bruce Stark, and Rain Worthington.

On Saturday, June 5, 2021, the orchestra will conclude its 97th concert season with PYPFEST Vol. 3: Return of the Orchestra, premiering 8 more new compositions. Commissioned composers for this round include Nicole Buetti, Alfonso Fuentes Colón, Kamran N. Ince, Nancy Ives, Texu Kim, Isabella Morrill, and PYP alumnus Kevin Walczyk.
