Portland Youth Philharmonic Closes Season 93 With Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8. & Cello Soloist Annie Zhang

Portland Youth Philharmonic will celebrate the end of its 93rd season on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 4:00 PM in Portland’s historic Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. The concert will feature 15-year-old Southridge High School freshman and cellist Annie Zhang, winner of the 2016-17 PYP Concerto Competition.

“Annie is 15, but is finishing her fourth season with our Philharmonic Orchestra,” says PYP Musical Director David Hattner. “She has been in the organization since 2010, and is a very talented musician who works extremely hard. Annie made her solo debut with the orchestra as the winner of PYP’s Soloist Competition two seasons ago, playing Tchaikovsky’s Pezzo Capriccioso.”

Annie will present Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto in E minor.The program will also include a world premiere by Debra Kaye called Ikarus Among the Stars, and Antonín Dvořák’s popular Symphony No. 8. Families are invited to arrive one half-hour before the performance to visit PYP’s Instrument Petting Zoo, presented by Kennedy Violins.
