PYP OPENS ASTONISHING SEASON 96 SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9 WITH GERSHWIN’S PIANO CONCERTO

PORTLAND, OR – Since 1924, Portland Youth Philharmonic has been committed to inspiring young and young-at-heart audiences throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington, while also providing the highest quality music education possible. The orchestra’s long tradition of excellence in education and performance dates back to its first concert in 1925.
The PYP orchestra and conductor David Hattner will open their astonishing 96th season on Saturday, November 9, 2019, with American composer George Gershwin’s expressive, jazz- inspired Piano Concerto (1925), performed by 15-year-old Sunset High School sophomore Joshua Ji, winner of the 2019 Portland Piano International / SOLO Piano Concerto Competition.
PYP will also present Amy Beach’s Gaelic Symphony, the first full length orchestral work published by an American woman composer (1896), and the pulsating Batuque (1930) by Brazilian composer Oscar Lorenzo Fernández.
