Portland Youth Philharmonic Welcomes Back Roger Kaza of the St. Louis Symphony for Winter Concert
Portland Youth Philharmonic alumnus (1968-74) and Principal Horn for the Saint Louis Symphony, Roger Kaza, returns to Portland for PYP’s Winter Concert on Saturday, March 4, 2017, 7:30 PM in the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. Kaza will join Portland Youth Philharmonic on stage to perform Peter Schickele’s 1976 composition Pentangle for Horn and Orchestra.
“Roger played in the Portland Junior Symphony during some of its greatest years,” says PYP Musical Director David Hattner. “He went on its first international tour and was the orchestra’s Principal Horn in the 50th anniversary season, 1973-74. His appearance is a rare opportunity to hear a horn soloist and celebrate the consistent greatness of our organization.”
The orchestra will also perform Samuel Barber’s First Essay for Orchestra, Claude Debussy’s Nuages and Fêtes from Nocturnes, and Hector Berlioz’s Roman Carnival Overture. Winter Concert tickets start at just $5 for students (elementary – grad school). Adult tickets start at $19, and can be purchased at the door, by clicking here or by calling the PYP office at 503.223.5939 (Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM).
